Secretary, Nasima Begum ndc was born in 10 January, 1960 at Munshiganj, Bangladesh. She did her Masters Degree with Honors’ from the University of Dhaka in Islamic History and Culture and M.Phil. in Strategy and Development from National Defense College under Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). She has joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 3rd April, 1983 and started her career in Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre) as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate. Out of 34 years of service she served almost 09 years for the development of distressed women and children, autistic and different disable person in various government capacity as Joint Secretary, Director General of Department of Social Services, the Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare and presently the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. The close and active attachment with the people of different walks of life has made resourceful in her 19 years field level working career.
She was honored for her contribution in promoting rights and access to education, health, rehabilitation, livelihood, social and empowerment of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. She has a great contribution in introducing comprehensive education system to help children with neuro-developmental disorder. She got recognition for her work on promoting rights of persons with disabilities including children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the regional and global level.
She tries to mainstream the distressed women through implementation of different comprehensive programs by the ministry. Now, she is working with different national programs to stop gender based violence and trafficking of women. Protection of women in the workplace and ensuring full and equal participation of women in the overall socioeconomic development process in Bangladesh is her vision.
She has edited scores of souvenir, reports regarding protection and development of children and women, children with disability, gender equality, empowerment of women, Autism Awareness, detection and treatment center. She also did research on Inclusive education, special schooling and comprehensive autistic children learning system in the context of developing country like Bangladesh. Moreover, she has done some outstanding literary works on women’s empowerment and liberation war.
She is married to Mr. Md. Faizur Rahman Chowdhury Senior Secretary, Ministry of Textiles Jute. They are blessed with two sons Sayeed Ahmed Chowdhury Nasif and Fahim Ahmed Chowdhury Nayeem.
