Humanitarian Technology Project Competition

Women in Engineering Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section happily announces the Call for Proposal of International Humanitarian Technology Project Competition (WIE-IHTPC) which will take place in Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit (WIE ILS) 2018, to be held on 12-13 October, 2018, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Being a part of IEEE, WIE Bangladesh Section highly appreciates the participation of the rising, young and potent minds and their significant contributions toward the underprivileged, deprived and vulnerable communities by identifying the obstacles and difficulties, faced especially by the women, in social, cultural and socio-economic aspects. WIE-IHTPC will offer a unique platform for the future STEM leaders to showcase their dynamic ideas, vision and solutions to those problems blended with newer and smarter technology for the betterment of humanity. It will also give them an opportunity to meet and connect with the esteemed and recognized experts and professionals around the world.
Eligibility: All IEEE Undergraduate and Graduate Student Members are welcome to submit their humanitarian projects. Non-IEEE student members are also encouraged to participate.
Themes: The theme of this year’s WIE-IHTPC is “Aspirations, Activities and Engagement of Women in Humanitarian Technology to Develop Engineering Solutions to the Challenges Faced by Women in the Society” which will cover the following criteria:
Other local community problems
The project should offer a sustainable solution to real community’s problem.
The project proposal must have some technology component aiming at the benefit of humanity.
The solution you provide must have a visible and significant impact on quality of life.
Guidelines for Proposal Submission:
The project team may comprise of Students, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering, Professional/Senior Member and representative of local community member.
The project description should include project title, problem description and proposed solution to the problem. The projects may include developing mobile apps and can also be hardware, computer or IoT based.
The word limit for problem description is maximum 100 and the proposed solution is 300.
The following information for project members, contact person and mentor need to be included:
Disclaimer: Members must declare about the novelty of the work. IEEE plagiarism policy will be followed strictly. If the same or similar work has been presented elsewhere by the same members, it must be clearly stated. Please try to make sure that no one else or no other institutions/organizations are deprived of their deserve credit regarding the similar innovation.
Team size: Maximum 3 members including at least one woman and at least one member must register and attend during the final event to demonstrate the work (if it is finally accepted).
Team members may come from different institutions.
Each team is requested to mention the name of a mentor for their project. A mentor is generally an experienced engineer/volunteer/faculty member. It is expected that the team members at least discuss their project with the mentor. However, the mentor can also be a member of the team.
Upon confirmation of all teams, short-listed project teams must present their project through a poster or live demonstration during the final competition.
The promising projects will be shortlisted based on the creativity, performance, reliability, innovation, design, exploratory and most importantly on their impact on humanity or on the community.
All short-listed teams presenting the projects during the conference will be given certificates provided that they submit final 4-page reports following IEEE conference template.
The top 5 teams will be awarded for their outstanding projects and also the “Best Project Award” will be given to the team who will score highest in the overall competition.
The organizers have the right to cancel the registration and participation if the proposal or product is found to be not original, already commercialized product, or copied from other sources.
The decision of judges is final and no claim will be considered.
No change of members is allowed during the competition.
